Friends of Johnny Kaw believe in the legendary farmer's classic tale and chiseled look so devotedly, they’ve started a drive to beautify his City Park homestead with improved landscapes and nameplate to detail his many prairie exploits. The statue itself was constructed in 1966. The legend, a creation of Kansas State agronomy professor George Filinger. As far as we’re concerned, Johnny’s still a powerful presence here on the Great Plains. Visit Manhattan, Gateway to the Flint Hills, and salute Johnny Kaw. The Great Kansas Wheat Grower towers over City Park as his legend continues to grow.
